¡Hola! Oi! Let me tell you a little bit about my background.

I have always loved to travel (and eat while doing it!).  Like many language enthusiasts, it was my passion for international adventure that led me to study language, and eventually become an instructor. I have no shame in saying that I am a language nerd!

I have a B.A. in Romance Languages from the University of Oregon, a M.A. in Spanish from the University of New Mexico, a M.A. in Portuguese from the University of New Mexico, and a Ph.D. in Spanish and Portuguese from Tulane University. From 2012-2015, I taught Spanish at the University of New Mexico. While in the PhD program, I taught Spanish at Tulane University from 2015-2020. Lastly, from 2020-2023, I taught Spanish and Portuguese at Rice University. Latin American music, history, film, and literature are topics I have researched extensively, and I love to incororate my knowledge about culture into lessons. 

I specialize in teaching Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese to adults, and am experienced in instructing Portuguese to speakers of Spanish. If you are a Spanish speaker who is learning Portuguese, I can tailor those lessons to your unique background. The same goes for Portuguese speakers learning Spanish.

I offer private Spanish and Portuguese (Brazilian) lessons to adults, and all courses are taught over Zoom or Skype. Classes are an hour long. 

I follow a communicative approach to teaching which means that I facilitate discussion while simultaneously limiting my talk time to allow for a student-centered classroom. Instead of lecturing to you about grammar and vocabulary,  I use authentic materials (material created for native speakers) to initiate conversation in Spanish or Portuguese. If this appraoch seems intimidating, we can go slow and take it one step at a time. My goal is to immerse you as much as possible in the language, while also creating a fun and comfortable environment. 

• How much are classes? 

I charge $50 per hour lesson. If you buy a nine-class package ($450), I will give you one class free of charge. 

• What languages do you teach? 

I teach Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. Keep in mind that if you are learning Portuguese, European, African, and Brazilian Portuguese are all quite different and my experience is with the latter. 

• Do I have to buy a text book? 

You can, or I can supply all of the material free of charge. 

• How do I pay? 

I accept payment via Venmo or Zelle.

• What is your cancelation policy? 

If you need to cancel a lesson I completely understand! We all have busy lives. I do kindly request that you cancel within 24 hours of your lesson. If a lesson is cancelled after the 24 hour mark, I will need to charge you for the lesson as I may not be able to reschedule in such a short amount of time. Always get in touch with me over text if you need to cancel. 

• Do you teach children? 

I only teach adults. However, I may make exceptions for adolesents 16 and over.

• Do you offer a free trial class? 

We will schedule a 15 minute video conversation to dicuss your goals and needs as a learner. This service is free of charge.
